Mentorship Matters: Engineering a Path to Success

June 6, 2024 — 10:30–11:45 a.m.

Esteemed engineers across their careers, and fellow innovators, welcome to what is perhaps the most foundational, but rarely talked about or taught, component of professional growth and advancement in engineering… a fundamental pillar of success in any career: mentorship.

Mentorship can be a rewarding experience for both mentor and mentee, but rarely, if ever, do professionals see the long-term benefits of it. Either they get swallowed up in a sea of mentees looking for senior-level mentors, or they find themselves lost as a mentor trying to connect with nearly endless LinkedIn requests from mentees. Regardless of where you are on your journey, there is an opportunity to re-evaluate what the mentor-mentee relationship means and ensure it works for everyone in the relationship.

What if mentorship could be just as structured, formulated, and straightforward as structural mechanics or fluid dynamics? Those courses are incredibly difficult, but the rules and formulas are straightforward, and this can be the case with mentorship as well.
