Robotics for Operations in Hazardous Confined Spaces
Dr. Alex Ramirez-Serrano, P.Eng., is a full-time professor at the University of Calgary, where he has served in several roles, including director of the manufacturing program and director of the graduate program within the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. He is the founder and director of the Robotarium research laboratory, where he performs research and development activities in aerial and multilegged robotic systems. Dr. Ramirez-Serrano is also the founder and CEO of 4Front Robotics, a Calgary-based robotics company that develops highly manoeuvrable drones and custom field unmanned vehicles for deployment in highly confined spaces, such as those found in collapsed buildings, and operation in harsh environments.
Dr. Ramirez-Serrano has a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering (Mexico), master’s degrees in mechanical and aerospace engineering (USA) and computer science and artificial intelligence (Mexico), and a doctorate in mechanical and industrial engineering (Canada).
