George Kourounis
George Kourounis is a Canadian explorer, storm chaser, and television presenter renowned for documenting Earth’s most extreme natural phenomena. Over his 25-year career, he has filmed in more than 80 countries and all seven continents, capturing hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions, and the impacts of climate change. As the host of the television series Angry Planet, Kourounis has brought viewers face-to-face with nature’s raw power, earning a Guinness World Record for descending into Turkmenistan’s Darvaza gas crater to collect microbial soil samples. Beyond his television work, Kourounis is an explorer-in-residence for the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, a National Geographic explorer, and the former Canadian chapter chair of the Explorers Club. He has received numerous accolades, including the Stefansson Medal and the Leif Erikson Exploration Award. A passionate science communicator, Kourounis has delivered five TEDx talks and presented at the United Nations Environmental Emergencies Forum in Oslo. His work continues to inspire audiences worldwide to appreciate and understand the forces that shape our planet.
